To lie down and let a CNT practitioner touch the abdomen can and mostly cause’s feelings of vulnerability in the person receiving CNT, just the thought alone of this is enough to make these feelings arise.
It’s of the utmost importance that the CNT practitioner recognizes this and validates this experience for the student receiving CNT. Sometimes just wording this to the student, something along these lines.
“You know it’s quite normal and very common that when exposing your abdomen you may feel nervous or apprehensive”
or
“I can understand that you may be feeling quite nervous right now it’s very normal to feel that way when you have to face a new situation”
Something like the above or sharing your own experience of receiving CNT for the first time immediately can put the receiver into a more trusting and open state.
Trust and openness are the deep virtues of the Spleen and Earth element
So before even touching someone’s “Earth” the student’s body, you have gone a long way to developing trust within the student before even touching them.
It’s also a good idea before touching the bare skin of the receiver to rest your hand on the tan tien through the clothes and encourage some nice breathing and smiling into the belly, before actually asking the student to expose the bare abdomen.
This again creates a gentle feeling of trust and respect to the vulnerabilities that we all can feel when facing unknown situations.
In my experience in giving many thousands of CNT treatments,
creating trust and safety is of vital importance because it allows the defensive aspects of the body to relax.
These days most people’s nervous systems are in such a state of alert and readiness, most peoples adrenal glands are constantly stimulated for fight or flight. It takes time for this defensive system to start to let down and feel safe.
Talking to the student and really listening to their concerns will also help calm the nervous system and create an atmosphere of trust and safety.
Another important attitude for the CNT practitioner to maintain and one Master Chia emphasizes a lot, is we are not like a therapist in the regular sense. We are not here to provide a fix, but more like educators helping students enough to help themselves, and through CNT gently assisting the student get much more in touch with themselves.
Our bodies has innate intelligent built into it governed by 500 million years of evolution. It can be very arrogant to assume we will fix and somehow know more then the natural intelligence in the body. Our bodies are very wise and do everything to create homeostasis.
If the CNT practitioner understands this and holds this understanding deep in his or her energy body, this is transmitted deeply to the receiver of CNT and the receiver will become more trusting and open very naturally, his or energy body will recognize no judgments coming from the practitioner energetically but just gentle acceptance of the perfection of the present moment.
In the end it’s the level of the CNT Practitioners deep self acceptance and self love that is transmitted and what creates trust and openness for deep healing to take place.
